Project 1: Web Iteration and User Testing

Reflection

This project strengthened my ability to plan and conduct usability testing, analyze findings through affinity mapping, and translate insights into design improvements.

I realized that clear feedback and visual guidance often matter more than new features, and that thoughtful iteration can turn small interface changes into meaningful user confidence.

Context of the Project

The platform was preparing for early user access, and the team wanted to ensure that learners could easily navigate the site and feel engaged from the very first interaction.

Refining the Experience

During the user testing, I planned and ran a moderated usability test to evaluate the registration and onboarding flow. After defining goals and drafting task scenarios, I piloted the test and finalized a short discussion guide.

Key findings were synthesized through affinity mapping, revealing issues with visual hierarchy and navigation clarity. I refined the flow accordingly, improved focus cues and step organization.

Most of my recommendations were implemented and received positive feedback from users.

Participants were recruited through a screener reflecting our target learner personas. Using a think-aloud method, I observed how users navigated onboarding and captured moments of hesitation or confusion.

Understanding the Goal

As part of Phase 2 development planning, I was assigned to explore how IVoT’s core calculation tool could be transformed into a mobile experience. The goal was to make the learning process more engaging and intuitive while helping users understand its logic through scenario-based learning.

Outcome

The mobile prototype and testing results were well received by both the lead and users, and the design has been selected as the foundation for the next stage of product development.

Reflection

This project strengthened my ability to balance consistency with platform-specific needs. I learned how to simplify complex financial data without losing clarity and how thoughtful visualization can turn a functional tool into an intuitive, motivating learning experience.

Identifying the Core Challenge

Beyond ensuring visual and functional consistency with the web version, I focused on adapting the design to fit mobile users’ behaviors.

The biggest challenge was translating the complex calculation tool—originally large and filled with dense numerical data—into a format suitable for smaller screens. For users with limited financial knowledge, this level of numerical intensity felt intimidating and hard to interpret.

Designing and Testing

To address this, I simplified the content around key scenarios and combined numeric results with graphical elements for clearer communication, complemented by scenario-based questions that allowed users to quickly practice using the tool.

I refined and validated the content with the team lead, built a prototype for testing, and ran an A/B test to compare the web and mobile versions. users expressed strong satisfaction with the redesigned version, noting that it was easier to understand and more visually engaging.

Project 3: Redesigning a Tool with Gamification

Reflection

The concept was well received by the team. Although it did not go live during my internship, I was told that it laid the foundation for the next product phase. Seeing this idea evolve reminded me that even in complex fields like finance, thoughtful design can make learning feel human, intuitive, and motivating.

Understanding the Challenge

I was tasked with redesigning a tool that visualized investment growth. Early user studies revealed that many learners lacked financial background, and the data-heavy interface felt intimidating. My goal was to create an experience that felt approachable, visually clear, and engaging.

Finding a Simple, Relatable Metaphor

The project used a shop’s revenue and expenses as a relatable scenario. I began by studying how similar industrial tools visualize financial data and noticed most relied on static charts.

To make it more intuitive, I created quick wireframes exploring simpler visual layouts that could help users understand income and cost patterns at a glance.

Iterating Toward Balance

Building on the exploration, I refined the visuals to find the right balance between clarity and engagement. With feedback from my mentor, I simplified interactions and focused on smoother motion cues that guide attention without distraction.
